Tripped Electrics

If the power to your plugs or lights in parts of your house or flat has gone off, then you will need to check the following steps before calling us:

Turn off the appliances and lights in the affected part of the house, otherwise the electrics could just keep tripping.

Locate your fuse box - this could be in the basement, close to the front door or in a cupboard in the front bedroom or lounge. This isn't an exhaustive list - you may need to have a look around. Make sure you can locate your fuse box and you know where it is as it may be in areas such as the basement and or cupboards in kitchen to name just a couple areas

If all circuit breakers aren't in the ON position turn them all the way off and then ON. Circuit breakers look like switches that are in the fuse box.

Make sure the circuit breaker doesn’t trip again by waiting 20 seconds. If it does trip again you will need to go around and check that the correct item has been unplugged as the item which caused the trip hasn’t been unplugged.

If the circuit breaker doesn’t trip you can slowly start to turn on one item at a time. If an item trips the circuit breaker when you plug it back in, leave it unplugged as this is likely causing the trip.

If it keeps on tripping and you are sure everything has been unplugged an electrician will be needed. If it is one of your appliances that is causing the trip you will be at fault and responsible for fixing and disposing it.
