Alarms & Smoke Detectors

If you find yourself in a situation where any security alarms or smoke detectors are going off in your property, here's what to do.

Note- We strongly advise that you test your smoke alarms weekly as to ensure it is in full working order.

Smoke alarms- Not all smoke alarms work the same as each other. This can be due to their sensitivity, how big the property is, and where they are located. Some smoke alarms may go off while you try to make dinner, some for no reason at all, and some for actual smoke and fire emergencies.

If your smoke alarm is going off due to an actual smoke or fire emergency, do not stop to turn it off. Get out of the property as quickly and safely as possible and notify the fire brigade or emergency services.

If you suspect that your smoke alarm is going off for no reason at all, firstly make absolutely sure that there is no present smoke, danger or fire.

If you have battery operated smoke alarms, it will be easy to locate the sounding alarm as it will be the only one making any noise. Smoke alarm batteries do need to be changed (if they are not built in lithium batteries) for the alarms to function properly, so if you have not done this in a while, it may be best to do so.

If your alarms are hard wired, they will all sound off at the same time. If you cannot turn these alarms off individually, you will have to reset them at the mains.

If you find that your smoke alarm is always going off in your kitchen while cooking, you may need to keep the area better ventilated. To do this, keep windows open while cooking and turn on your extractor fan. If your extractor fan does not work, get in contact with us.
